Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct covers your behaviour when contributing to this website, including any forum, mailing list, wiki, web page, online events or web form correspondence. We encourage individuals to self-moderate but collaborative. Please:

  • Be considerate. Any contribution you make will affect other users and the outcomes on this website, so please take those consequences into account when contributing comments and content. For example, if you are very frustrated about something, present the issue in a constructive way, which will lead others to respond constructively and assist everyone in dealing with it in the best possible way.
  • Be respectful. We commit to always treating one another with respect, and we would ask that all contributors do the same. We might all experience some frustration now and then, but we cannot allow that to turn into a personal attack. Disagreement is no excuse for poor behaviour and poor manners. Contributions that include inappropriate language or personal attacks on anyone will be removed.
  • Be yourself. Please use your personal identity when interacting online, including (where required) your email address and real name. This will help with both transparency and accountability of perspectives put forward. We have a strict but simple privacy policy (below) such that any information collated will only be used for verification and communications related to the specific contribution (be it a blog comments, Wiki edit or some other online contribution).
  • Be collaborative. Collaboration greatly improves the quality of the outcomes produced. You should aim to collaborate with us and with other contributors where possible. We encourage interested parties to use this website to link up with other interested parties for direct community collaboration and grassroots projects.
  • Be factual. There are many topics that will be covered on this website, some more volatile than others. Please ensure you check your facts, and where possible, add links and references to your information. It will help us and other website visitors to validate and cross-reference ideas.
  • When you are unsure, ask. Asking questions avoids many problems and misunderstandings down the road. When asking a question, care must be taken to do so in an appropriate way. Inflammatory or rhetorical questions can detract from productive discussion and outcomes. For our part we will try to be responsive and helpful, however we have limited staff and sometimes an answer may not come immediately so please be patient. Together we can achieve great things.

History

I think I was the first Dominican to ever have a blog. I started in 1996, and below is a brief history of my online achievements. I have always been keenly interested in technology, literature, business and government, and have thus tried to continually use internet technologies for my communications throughout my career.

  • 1998 – jordhy.com was born as a personal blog. I believe it was the first dominican blog. It was developed using html (and coded in notepad). See jordhy.com’s archive.
  • 2000 – Started using the blogger technology to update jordhy.com
  • 2001 – The site shifted from a personal website to a photo-poetry blog. Collected poems reside in “Amor, Pasión y Vida” (Love, Passion and Life) and english poems reside in the compilation “Drunken Home”
  • 2002 – Created Information Providers, a web development company based in latin america
  • 2003 – Miss Dominican Republic Universe Website (Developed by Information Providers) becomes the most visited dominican website in a week (over 250K visits), according to Alexa rankings
  • 2004 – Created portado.com, the first dominican social site, 2k members
  • 2005 – jordhy.com goes into a long hiatus. IP expands into web advertising and application development
  • 2006 -  The media event “New Technologies Party 2006″ starts the evangelism of Web 2.0 in the Dominican Republic
  • 2007 – portado.com is select to appear in the cover of Ning.com. Also Marc Andressen links to portado Amigos (portado’s social site)
  • 2008 – the consolidation of jordhy’s work began. A year latter 4 books where born: Toros de la Dignidad (Bulls of Dignity), Caliginofobia (Caliginophobia), Inmortal, and Constelación (Constelation). All self-published under lulu press
  • Late 2008 – Information Providers starts the development of the biggest e-commerce site of the dominican republic (alsuper.com.do with over 25K products)
  • Early 2009 – jordhy.com is redesigned. All my websites got consolidated here. The theater adaptation of “Toros de la Dignidad” sees the light. “Poemas Escritos por un Toro” (Poems Written by a Bull), the first compilation of poems is readied for publication. Jordhy is honored with inclusion in the “First National Short-Story Biennial” and in the “Second International Encounter of Poets in Costa Rica”
  • 2009 – All digital readings of jordhy’s poetry books became free via Issuu. Jordhy completed his second play, titled “Grecia Yolanda” and also his eight poetry book “Calibre 90″ (Caliber 90). “Toros de la Dignidad” (Bulls of Dignity)  is the first dominican poetry book readable via the Internet.
